Default Tpi after market intake choice

OK got my am&s runners in monday, was going to try to port the factory intake but i dont tink there is a enough meat there to go from 1.48 to 1.65. So now time to look for a aftermarket intake. My question is are all the port sizes the same? I am running a set of 180 cc heads now an the factory intake gasket fits with min trimming.[ head to intake].

There's not alot of choices for TPI intake manifolds on the Corvettes, Im running a Edelbrock Intake and it bolts right up to my Dart Pro 1 180cc heads, if you have steel heads it may be different...The Edelbrock comes with the ports at about 1.75" so they should match up close....WW

I have my factory intake gasket port matched to match ASM runners. Though I sent it off to have it done as I am not someone who could port it myself.

Seems to work well,

Best of Luck

I have read on here many times by those that would know, that the stock intake even when ported will not gain much HP or rpms, torque is mostly what you will gain...Even the Hi Flow intake, runners and ported plenum will only get you a small amount of power and torque, plus a few hundred extra rpms... You don't start seeing any real gains until you go to a Super ram ,Mini ram , HSR, etc.....The only TPI type intake that will really gain a significant amount is the one built by "First"....WW

Read this article below to see how to gain real power.....

Here is what you need.

http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive_...rmer-tpi.shtml

Port your plenum and install a 52mm tb and you will have a high flow TPI system, just like the FIRST.

I have a dyno in my L98TPI photo album that shows the power curve you will see. Your numbers may be a little higher or lower but the curve should be similar. Peak Torque should occur @ 3750-4000rpm and peak HP @ 5,000.

^I was told 52mm TB was WAY too much for a 383, let alone a 350.....

My 383 port supports 58 mm tb, 32lb injectors, seems to run well. Cannot say it is as good as first or any aftermarket as I don't have one to make a comparison. Also I haven't gone to a dyno yet so I don't know what I am actually putting to the wheels.

It is possible a First solution would provide more flow but I am limited by my heads so I don't think going aftermarket for me would make sense or perform any better. Heads are Procomp 190's.

When I was running a 383, I used a 58mm throttle body and it worked well.

The stock TB will handle a little over 400 hp according to most builders ... When Pete Kane built my 383 motor which is close to 400 hp, both he and my tuner Mick Stevens told me to just keep my stock throttle body, it was fine for my setup..Some guys go to a larger TB and it won't hurt anything if you do, but under 400hp it's not really necessary ..WW

Also look at the TPiS Big Mouth. I'm pretty sure it comes stock for a Felpro 1204.

It will have to be a used intake, TPIS stopped production on the Big Mouth a while back...According to what I have read on here , the Big Mouth is the same intake as the Edelbrock #3860...WW

Their runners have also been discontinued ...

I have little throttle body syndrome and needed throttlebody enhancement.

OK I SAID IT, my throttle body is enhanced!!!!

Sorry, couldn't resist....SIZE DOES MATTER to those of us that are throttle body challenged.....
