If you are referring to the lever on the left of the seat, I believe if you pull on it and push the top of the seat back it give you a few more degrees of recline, pulling it again should return the seat to its original position..

Tried to upload a picture but not cooperating right now. If you are talking about the lever on the front left side of the seat I had the same problem with mine. I removed the seat cushion and the pivot for this lever was broken. Found a small pin that fit and now that lever reclines my seatback like it is supposed to.

I can see the lever move a cable that moves a small lever inside of the "spring thing" .It looks like the spring needs to be loaded. but I cant see how it moves .I have seat out and both cushions out

does someone know if the "thick" bar between the top and bottom seat sections moves. is that what makes the spring load?

GOT IT!!! If you move the lever and push seat back it locks then move lever the other way and it "springs " forward. I guess because it was out of car I didn't have leverage to move . now I just have to figure out how to put new seat cushions on frame

You'll need to make a tool to push on the retaining bar in the back of the seat cushion to get that retaining bar into the clip in the seat bucket. Cut a "V" groove in the end of a 1/4" rod to push the retaining bar toward the center of the seat to get it into the clip.

This is a copy of the clips on the seat back that Roy is referring to.. I had a tool for getting the roots of dandelions, basically the same idea as Roy suggested making.. While you are at it you might take a pic or two of the assembly for others with the problem, I would but my vette is in deep hibernation..LOL

I pushed it in by hand, you don't need a special tool.

i did both mine. after fighting the DS, i came up with some thing like ccrazor mentioned. much much quicker and less strain on fingers

something with a v or slot to grip the heavy wire in the seat and handle long enough to extend out past the seat frame

Honestly putting in the new seat cushions was probably the most pain that I have had with mine. It made me more mad and frustrated then when I pulled my engine which makes no sense at all.

And the winner is... notched screwdriver (and a lot of forearm). thanks to all. I guess when I started I was afraid to press down as hard as I had to on my brand new seats but that's what it takes. Here's how I did it...
1,Press down hard on seat above clip
2,with other hand bend side of seat towards you(to see clip)
3,While holding seat down with forearm bent toward you (all with same hand-arm)
take other hand and push metal cushion frame bar into clip.
Hope this helps the next guy, It would be really hard to show in photos.
