I had this problem, since my Vette was under warrenty I took it to the dealer. He changed the lube out and put in fresh factory lube. No difference. Two years later I replaced the factory stuff with the ZF approved Castrol 10W-60 (the stuff from BMW). All I can say is WOW, much better. I've heard RedLine is good too, I just prefer to use ZF approved lube.
IMHO, it's also a good idea to bleed the clutch once a year, that can also cause hard shifting.

I had this happen to a 65 GTO about a hundred years ago. Change fluid a couple of times and viola! Easy shifting.

I just let the car warm up. We had this problem on our tractors in the winter. We had to remove the shifter and actually stir up the tranny oil to loosen it up just so we could getthe damn thing started!

I was having a similar problem, also 2nd to 3rd shift was "notchy". Turned out to be a leaky slave or master cylinder. Replacing them both solved the problem. :D
