Default U-Joint problem?

Have 86 automatic the rearend bangs when i put in drive it is fine in reverse. Idle is at 650-700. It shifts smoothly once in drive.

usually. if its a u-joint(driveshaft), a sortta clank or clunk, is heard when putting it in gear from an idle.

Thats what i was afraid of..It doesn't do it in reverse. On scale of 1 to 10 how hard diy with no lift.. Thanks for quick response

I would think it should do it in reverse as well. Is not hard, bu tmust be careful. Some say you can pull the driveshaft without pulling the "C-bar" beam that runs from the tranny to the rearend. That, my frind, is a pia to pull,in my opinion.

thanks for info i will use my friends lift i see it will save a lot of time .. I have done u-joints before but not on vette .I got feeling it is half shaft on rr will see when on lift. thanks again for info
