When I start my car in the morning it fires right up, but the oil pressure reads close to 80. When I drive it it is sluggish for the first mile or two then it begins to backfire, then clears up after thirty seconds and then runs great. Any ideas on what the probem could be. No codes are thrown, and it is a 90. I'm sure it needs new plugs, wires etc., but is something clogged?
Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, which I probably am. But, you posted looking for some kind of answers, so here goes.
If your oil pressure is at 80, and your car is sluggish and backfires, it's running too rich. The fuel relay and/or fuel pump is based on oil pressure a bit I think. Cuz, I have an oil pump accumulator that whenever I advance the key , it primes the engine with 60 psi (or whatever it was when the engine was shut off) of oil. With the car off, the accumulator is at 60 psi, and sometimes I can hear the fuel pump still going. Turned out, the pump was still turning due to a high oil pressure that the accumulator was holding or something very similar to that. My mechanic told me, I wish I could help more.
