Default Code 42 I Hate it!!!!!

A little history, car can sit for a day or a week and you try to start and it will not start, come back in a little bit and it will start( but not always). I have already replaced the ignition module and that did not help at all, only made it worse, now car will not start at all, cap and rotor button have been replaced and I checked all connections and they are all good. I did a search and some post said the EST is located near the blower motor(which one near it???), and one more thing, I checked the fuses just because and some lit up with the ignition off and most lit up with it on but the ECM Fuse didn't in either case but the fuse was not blown, would that indicate that the ECM is bad?????

I know this post is long with alot of questions but I really need help because I can drive my car at all now....

Thanks In Advance

1) I checked all connections and they are all good.
2) I did a search and some post said the EST is located near the blower motor(which one near it???)
3) I checked the fuses just because and some lit up with the ignition off and most lit up with it on but the ECM Fuse didn't in either case but the fuse was not blown, would that indicate that the ECM is bad?????

1) I would double check the ground for the EST underneath the distributor cap, and I would check the ground at the top of the bellhousing on the drivers side.

2) Actually, the EST is under the cap. The ESC is by the blower motor. If you have an 85-89, it is about 3inX3inX0.5in. Right above the 'gill panel'. Otherwise, if you are talking about the EST bypass wire, that is near the brake booster.

3) What do you mean 'light up'? If you are using one of those 'LittleFuse' brand fuse checkers, all it does is light up with continuity (IOW, you can test it with a screwdriver). Are you using a testlight to check the fuses???

Good luck, -Matt-

First detemine if it's fuel or ignition.

A timing light on #1 should flash when the engine is cranked to indicate if ignition is OK.

A FP gauge on the Schraeder valve will tell you if the fuel pump is priming the fuel rail; you may be able to hear it run for the 2sec just after you turn the key On.

I'm not sure where the EST module is located; the ESC module is located to the right of the blower motor. But that has to do with knock counts, code 43.

Send an IM to Vic'89 and he can look up the location of the EST module for you.
