The car has been sitting in the garage for eight weeks. It's going to the shop soon for engine work. Yesterday I notice a strong fuel smell. I checked for leaks but found nothing. Any ideas? I did have the gas cap off all this time but put it back on two days ago for no real reason.
I just repaired my fuel smell. The problem was associated with a cracked (rotting) fuel vapor return line. The rubber line is located on the rear frame close to the drivers rear wheel well. Put your nose around the tire and sniff. If you smell gas the rubber return line is the culprit
The size of the OD is smaller than the fuel lines sold at the auto parts stores. I recommend purchasing the part from your local Chevy dealer.
Good luck, this is an easy fix. I put the rear of the car on ramps and had plenty of clearance to slide under the car and make the repair.
