Make sure you can loosen the fill plug before you drain the trans.

Thanks Russell.
The plugs came out without issue. I drained the fluid. Let it drain for awhile. Cleaned up the plugs and got out my fill hose and snaked it through down past the firewall and refilled with the redline lightweight shockproof gear oil. Talked to Bill from ZFdocs and he said ok to use that fluid. He also said no thread sealant of any kind on the tranny plugs or fill plug. Just torque to 26lbs. It all went just fine.
PS I also replaced my fuel filter while I was down there. 😝

I bought a brand new zf6 blue tag trans to replace the 90,000 mile one in my 96. it came full of oil from GM. my question is should I run it with the oil that came in it or drain and fill with something better. like amsoil ? here it is.
Just replace trans fluid with red line mtl, going out to take a ride, will come back soon to let you know how its feel

Red line MTL works very well, after 7 hours, improve are the shifted, like butter, all gear are smoother than old fluid were, that think was a 20 years old fluid.
Reverse gear also is very smooth, before with old fluid was very hard to engage, and sometimes malfunction on back up lights switchhappened, missing to turn on lights, no more
Great smell, typical petroleum, i love it, red colour,
Tomorrow i will re check level, think it will be necessary to add fluid a little, cause today car wasn't on perfect flat surface...
