Default 85 fuel injectors

Hi,
I need to replace my fuel injectors on my 85
What are the best replacements to use, most dealers show the accell 24 lb injectors, are they ok or is there a better choice?
Thanks

Check with FIC -- Fuel Injector Connection:

http://www.fuelinjectorconnection.com

Jon is known for phenomenal customer service and a LOT of people here on the Forum are customers.

I have bought a couple of sets of Jon at FIC for my 85 and can recommend him,
use the 24lb Bosch 3's - he has rebuilds for $189 a set and they work perfectly.

I have used the 24 lbs Accel injectors on my 85 with no issues. Jon at FIC -- Fuel Injector Connection has a very good reputation on this Forum for providing a good product and his personal support to get you up and running.

Thanks everyone,
I checked out the FIC website and its good to know there are choices
The price for rebuilds looks good but for the long term is it better to go with new injectors or are the rebuilds as good as new?

First off the only new injector is the Accel injector and some like them and some do not. We have used lots of them here and there have never been issue. The Bosch III is a better injectors, they are not rebuilt that is a term that we all use, what is rebuilt is the injector is cleaned and new filter baskets are installed, that is the rebuild. You cannot disassemble an injector and do anything with the coil. I would personally on my own car go to the newer bosch III injector. However 24lb injectors are what is for a 85 and 85 only. In 86 you will need the 22 lb injector.

thanks for helping to clear up the issue.....manifold up on my 85 is off an 86, including tb and the 22# seem to be working great....originally called FIC and asked for 24# bosch III...don't know why they recommended 22#...working great anyway.....

85 used a 23.8 lb rated at 43.5 psi, but installed the at 39 psi. In 86, some used a 5235302 and were programmed at 23 lbs. 87 thru 89 used 22.4 lbs in the programming. 90 went to 22.1. Different pressures were used throughout these years to compensate for different injectors used. I totally agree with your rebuild comments on the injectors too.

I called Jon and he recommended the 22lb bosch 3, if you check out the TPIS website they recommend the 20lb bosch denso for the 85, say they will support stock to mildly modified engines from 230 to 350 hp. At this point I think it's a matter of trusting Jon's experience.

If an 85 car has a 17085050 rail ask john for Bosch 280-155-715.

My question is. Is the 85 injector rated at 24pounds at 35-39psi(not sure of exact 85 pressure) of the 85 fi regulator or 43 psi like the later regulators are set at?(shouldnt of posted this mr *****'s posted it right above. ) Thanks

Your injector should be a Bosch 280-150-223 which is 248 cc at 43.5 psi.

http://www.witchhunter.com/flowdatapix/b0280150223.jpg

If your rail pressure is 39 psi which is standard for the 17085050 rail these are a great replacement.

From Jon:

http://fuelinjectorconnection.com/sh...p?productid=57

FWIW, 24 lbs is equal to 252 cc. If you check pressure it is done without vaccum applied to the regulator.

It depends on what that injector is rated at by psi. A 24lb injector is not just a 24lb injector. Was it rated at 39, 43.5 or 58? A 22lb injector will run in your car just fine, it will be lean up top if you do not install and adjustable regulator and increase the fuel pressure.

Let me clarify. 2.7 bar is very old and equal to 39 psi. 3 bar is 43.5 psi and not that old, and 58 psi is the newest at 4 bar. The injectors I listed were all rated at 43.5 psi, but can be converted here if you like.

http://www.csgnetwork.com/fiflowcalc.html

Please note if you convert the stock 280-150-223 from 248 cc to 39 psi it equals 22.5 lbs.

Knowledge is far superior to depending on someone who profits from ones ignorance.

if you wanted to make some mods like headers, 52mm t.b. and exhaust to increase air flow would it be a matter of increasing fp or going with a different injector?
