Oops! I figured it out. I had 5 & 7 wires reversed. I was getting around to replacing the driver's side wires and I got 5 & 7 reversed by accident. I was surprised that the car ran at all, but it was missing and I thought that I might have not got the wires pushed in all the way. I guess that we learn from our mistakes. The car runs great with the new TPIS wires!
Hey Bob:
Saw that you'd replaced the wires on your 95 and wondered which plan of attack you used on the drivers side connections to the opti. I've read posts regarding the fact that you can lie under the car (feet toward the rear end) and reach those four with your right hand from below. I've also read of the topside approach by removing the AC compressor and the PS pump. How did you attack it? thanks. Cire96
The passenger side was easy and a piece of cake. I took one look at the driver's side and gave up. After reading all the posts, I gave it a try. The first thing that I did was remove the wheel, part of the fender well to get at the plugs and wires. Next I removed the belt and tensioner. It is easy now to feel the connections on the opti. Next, I kept the wires together and removed them from the plugs until the only connection was to the opti. I removed the wires from the top of the opti noting the order. The factory wires are numbered. I then removed the wires. I laid them on my bench and lined up the new wires and transferred the retainers. I started at the opti, plugged in the connections and then worked my way back until I had them all back. My mistake on the 5 & 7 wires was because I could not see the connections and was working from feel. The new wires were not numbered and the piece of masking tape I put on the wire fell off. Of course now it is easy and I could do it again in half the time with time left over for a beer!
I hope this helps on your '96
