My coupe was running hot like 210 on the highway. Yesterday I took the radiator out and cleaned it and installed a thermostat. Took it for a nice run today and on the highway it would run at 196 - 200 if I ran 5th gear and then as high as 207 in 6th gear. Because of the temp differences based on RPM now I'm thinking water pump. What do you think?
Late C4's are notorious for running hot. If the weather is hot, it's probably about normal. Once mine gets hot, it pretty much stays warm, even on the highway like you say.
When I took my car in for a new water pump to GM, they cleaned and replaced everything...and the car runs 10 degrees cooler!
MinnesotaWhite,
Just curious as to where you took your car? Village Chev? I think that'd be the only dealer I would trust.
Yup, Bruce is the only person that touches my car at Village. If you want it done right the first time...and he's the only guy I'll drop my car off with a "do whatever is needed"...and he only actually does what is only needed!!!
We are sooo lucky in Twin Cities to have Bruce! Plus, GM Major Guard warranty helps too :D
Mine runs hotter, even on the highway on these 85-95 degree days. But from what you are saying, yours used to run cooler then it does now? It could be that you are not getting good heat transfer out of the radiator, even though you cleaned it. If it was mine, I would drain down some of the anti-freeze and put in a bottle of water-wetter, then top off with distilled water and give that a try. If that dosnt help, then I would have the radiator checked out by a radiator shop or replace it. Good luck and let us know what it turns out to be.
