Just got my X-RAM installed and I didn't know it was going to make that much of a differance! I just thought it would be like a little tiny difference that I wouldnt notice much at all. Boy was I wrong. It's like night and day with this thing on. For one thing its louder Another is it has a BIG kick to it once you change gears, kinda like the car wants to jump out of its skin! Havent dynod it yet or anything, can't afford it after the installation. But maybe in a couple weeks i can take it down to Atco to race.
Thanks go to all who talked me into getting it done.
im glad you are having better luck with it then i did. i was modded to the max (x-ram,375's,2800stall,dual exhaust with headers,1.6 roller's,chip & 160 thermo, under drive pullys, new 700r-4 with shift kit, accell box with davis ignition,etc....) and still got smoked by a ta real bad! :( the guy toyed with me....i was wide open throttle & he was walking by me easy! thats the night i decided to yank the crossfire & put a stroker in! :D i cant wait to see that ta again....hes goin down! :yesnod: i wish you lots of luck with the x-ram set up. i really wanted to keep the crossfire/x-ram but i dont think i could have made the setup any faster? i cant wait to hear some dyno figures.
there is a cable on the throttle bodies that controls the transmission shifts. tv cable is what i think its called? ask the person who installed it im sure hell know what to do.sounds like an easy adjustment. when i first installed my x-ram i had problems with a rev limiter like effect..... even with new distributer & high volume fuel pump...it turned out to be bad springs. it sounds like your having beter luck (except the shifting). how high have you got the rpm's?
I know we've done this dance before, but modded to the max? Mild bolt ones is more accurate. Wheres the heads, the cam, the bored tbi's, the larger injectors, the tuned ecm? This is the stuff that really makes a difference.
Ice digger, the tv cable probably needs to be tightened.

i agree but with you as far as heads, cam but would it take a modded ta? how much $ would you have to spend for it to keep up? i decided to just get a better engine. i wish you guys lots of luck but think its a waste trying to make the crossfire as fast as a modded ls-1. its just easier to yank the setup. i bet if you just put a carb & intake on the crassfire the car would be alot faster! :jester
you make all good points, yes its harder to make power, yes its easier to just drop in a carbed stroker, but it sure isnt cheaper.
Most of us crossfire owners arent looking to beat modded ls1's, though it has been done. Im looking to hang with lt1's. Ive raced my buddies 96z28 a few times and he always wins, but its definitley not a blow out.
If I put a carb on, would it be faster? Yep sure would, but then i'd give up mileage and when i do a 2 hour commute a day, thats not an option. Also i wouldnt pass emissions, so i'd have a nice 450hp car i couldnt drive.
btw i just read your getting your car back. 8 months?! why so long? Did you ship it a bolt at a time to have it painted?
:jester
Just to add,
A few years back,Vette magazine had a 400-HP crossfire motor,Red 84 Vette on the cover and the guy ran 12's with it.
Way too cool!!
It was a great article and he had engine work like a crane cam, head work, headers, ported crossfire, larger TB's,etc etc.(the x ram wasnt invented yet as far as I know)
I have to say I loved this article and he really brought that x-fire motor to todays standards a few years back befobe its time.
I love 84 vettes, stock or not,but also love it when people can take what they have and turn into a beast without slapping on a carb intake.Thats a true challenge there.Carb set ups are great, but for the crossfire, GM fugged up and put that POS,mentally retarded designed, half open intake manifolds on those motors...wth was that?Who allowed this to happen? Why werent they shot on the spot?
Cant blame people for throwing carbs and performer intakes on there.
Anyways, sounds like you may need the TV cable readjusted for the shifting of the tranny.May take some experimetning adjusting to find where the car loves t.
Good luck with the motor and hope it works out great.
:)

On pages 101 and 102 of Dave McLellan's new book, "Corvette from the Inside", he explains that Bendix had purchased all the North American rights to Bosch's fuel injection technology. Bendix and GM were having business issues with the Cadillac FI, so GM wouldn't allow McLellan to use it. So they were stuck with 15 year old Rochester system. And Crossfire was born

Nice work IceDigger!
now you will have to modify your signature. I agree with the other posts; you need to adjust the tv cable.

I think this may have been one of my friends. He used to have a nice black 84 with like 89 rims. He ran consistent 12.1's in it. That's exactly what he had, a crane cam, some nice heads and stuff. I couldn't believe it when that 84 DITCHED a brand new 97 vette. The other guy was PISSED! Especially when my friend popped his hood and showed him the X-fire! :smash:
Wow, 400hp 84 x-fire! Sounds expensive, I went broke after this installation, next modification probably isnt for another 1/2 year for me.
Got the cable adjusted and its very smooth now. Couldnt really run it hard today since it's rush hour. Probably gun it a couple times tonight to see how it is now that it is finally done
Have a second person floor the gas, when the cars off. Or use a brick.
Then push the D button down and tension will release from the adjuster. While your holding the button down push the square black sliding adjuster as far towards the firewall as possible, really reef on it. Then release the d button, and have the person release the gas. Double check that the throttle blades open all the way when he floors it.
This is transgo's recommended method, and it works quite well. I can notice if my car's tv has slipped a bit, and this method puts it right back where i want it.
