Default Serpentine belt replacement L1

Just replaced the serpentine belt on my 10,000 mile 1995 LT1 engine. Though there is really no wear, some cracks were starting to develope on the inside ribbed area. After trying to get on the tensioner with standard shop tools, broke down and purchased a serpentine belt tool kit at Harbour Freight ($15.95). It is made in China so you know it is quality. Then I determined the intake hose assembly (with mass flow sensor) had to also be removed allowing needed space to retract the tensioner. After getting the old belt wedged between the crank pully and frame member finally got it off. Installation went considerably better than removal and after some cleaning the belt and intake assembly was installed. A test run proved all is well, now ready for another 15 plus years. This seemly simple job required more patience than initially thought. Happy motoring!

Once you put the tool on the tensioner, if you pull the end of the tool as far as you can toward the front of the car.....you can release the tension without having to remove the other things. there is enough flex in the tool to do this....not like a breaker bar.

I keep and old spare belt in my rear compartment just in case. And carry a 16mm, breaker bar and steel tube to extent the bar on trips.

A double-ribbed belt might be hard to find if you're stuck somewhere.

That Harbor Freight Tool (just the shorter piece), 16mm socket, and a 3/8" Drive Craftsman Flex Head ratchet is all you need to do the job. NO other removal of anything. Works perfect.

Just watch the water temp sensor, it's real easy to break off

That is for sure........ others just be aware that the double-sided
belt can be ordered from any GM dealer. Mine have been shipped (free) from Reno, NV warehouse overnight to a NorthernCalif. GM dealer.
