In the last 3 months I have replaced 3 master cylinders on my 1988. all new not refab. They all leak at the bottom of the reservoir. should I spend the money and purchase an aluminum willwood. Or is a dorman any better? Any suggestions?

Have your 3 been from the same supplier? It is increasingly difficult to know who manufactured a part / what parts are equivalent, but I have always had good luck with AC Delco. I have also used Wagner. Yes, they are the more expensive parts, but I hate redoing things more all the time.

No all 3 where from different suppliers not sure if same manufacturer.
just not sure what to do next. have to get a new one. thanks for info.
The AC Delco master cylinders are made by PBR (Australian company). That's what came on the car from the factory (brake booster also). I think the calipers were PBR also, but my original ones are long gone...
When I replaced my master cylinder I found that the new one is steel. The original one was aluminum. Both PBR.
I had 3 Cardones leak at the same place new out of box. 1 from Advanced Auto, 2 from Napa. Returned all 3 and bought Dorman online and have had no leakage. Paid $120 for Dorman. 85 Vette.

I got two from napa and one from autozone also. guess I will try a dorman.. thanks
If you have a service manual they are not hard to rebuild.Just use alcohol for clean up & air to dry. You might disassemble first and look & feel in the bore for pits.
Good luck Joe

I had a leaking reservoir grommet. The front grommet. Put in a new GM grommet, and it still leaked.
The C4 master cylinder is the only one I've heard about that has a reservoir leak problem.

Did you lube it up with brake fluid before install. Mayby I'm lucky (need to play lotto more). It takes maybe 1 hr, 50.00 v 150.00 plus satisfaction that I did it and not done in china.

I believe I lubed it.
What tools did you use? I believe there is a special tool or like a pipe that is used to install the grommet. I know it was a pain.
