I have a question I was hoping someone could help me out with. I have replaced rear main seals, pan gaskets, timing covers, etc several times on 2 piece rear main seal Chevy small blocks. But, I am in the process of building a 383 out of a 1 piece rear main seal block & crank.
I have the housing that the seal gets pressed into which bolts to the rear of the block, and a Fel-Pro BS 40626 rear crankshaft seal kit. Along with the seal there are two gaskets. I know one fits between the seal housing and the block, but WTF is the other gasket for? (the top, round one in the pic below) (I'm assuming it may be for a different model/make engine that uses the same seal but a different shaped housing that holds the seal???)

The top gasket in your image is actually the rear main seal housing gasket for an LT5 - the LT5 and the SBC, L98, LT1 and most V6 builds share the same rear main seal.
