Question about LEDs and Relays
Hi guys, I have a 1985 Corvette with the stock computer, and a ton of mods. I'm doing tuning and need to view knock counts. I wired up an LED bulb to the ESC signal wire that goes from the EST module to the ECM. Now this light is always on until there is a knock. Then it just dims, instead of going out completely.
What I want to do is reverse this. I want to hook up a relay and make the light only come on when it knocks. Would a relay be able to keep up with the speed of those signal pulses?

Is your LED wired between the ESC signal and ground? Does this ESC signal voltage stay at 12 v. until you detect a knock signal? If so, change your LED wiring to go from the ESC output and 12 v. rather than your existing wiring from ESC to ground. Obviously, observe the correct polarity on your LED.
