im ready to fix my automatique transmission to my block....do you have a tip to know if i have enough oïl in the torque.....thanks and excuse my bad English... i speak french
.......... Pour at least a quart into it if its a new converter ... it can be a slow process ... if its your original used one and you didn't drain it out , it should be good to go ..............
Nothing.. It'll just pour out and make a mess. You won't screw anything up by over filling it.
One thing you might want to do is replace the O-ring on the input shaft while it's apart. That holds pressure for your lockup clutch, and you'll burn it if leaks.
Likewise, be careful installing the converter so you don't damage this seal. Be sure the converter is completely seated in the transmission, or you'll crash the pump.
The pump in the transmission will fill the torque converter and it will completely fill it in just a few seconds. Transmission fluid continuously flows from the transmission, through the torque converter, to the transmission cooler after which it returns to the transmission to lube the bushings etc. A few decades ago, converters had a drain plug on the front face to allow all the old oil to be drained out. I have drained dozens of them. The plug made changing the transmission fluid a lot easier but the plug was eliminated by the factory because of cost reasons and because the plug hole was smack dab in the middle of the converter lock-up clutch facing material. Like others have said, it’s OK to put a quart or so of ATF into the converter and then install it but I have installed most of them almost dry as shipped and have never had a problem. Just my thoughts, others may vary – LOL
Also, most important - buy a genuine Corvette factory service manual since it will save you many headaches in the future. The aftermarket ones are not all that informative, kind of useless really when compared to the one from Chevrolet.
Excellent advice as noted above from Confab.
Best of luck.
