If you really want an aggressive sound, just go to a muffler shop and have them take off the mufflers. You can spend more money by buying a Muffler Eliminator but you can spend less then $100 by having the shop take off the mufflers and welding a pipe from where your mufflers were to your exhaust tips. It does drone and people can hear you coming but if you put the pedal to the metal, your car will roar.

Heres my -96, long tubes, 3" cats, stock resonator and muffler eliminators.

If you would like a more refined tone, you could use borla xr1 or any other small racing muffler They are more like tone changers than mufflers

Here is my car with a stock engine and ZZ4 cam. Exhaust is made up of TPiS longtube headers, home made 3" X pipe with high flow cats and straight pipes out back. To me this sounds pretty good for a 98% stock engine.

I also, recommend muffler eliminators, if you can tolerate a little exhaust drone.

Muffler eliminators sound real aggressive without breaking the bank.

If you want something loud but classy, spend the money and go for Corsa, might as well get the best if you can, I went from Eliminators, which were just different levels of the same noise and tedious on a long trip, to Corsa's, still turns heads all the time, best thing I ever did on the car..

+1. Just installed a Corsa exhaust on my '96 today. No more drone. Significantly less cabin noise, and nice rumble in the back.

Do you happen to have any pics of your setup you could share? I've got a new set of Elites and an x-pipe ready to go on this summer and I'm also trying to get a few ideas...

I usually have my headphones on with only one ear covered up so I can still hear my wife and boy if needed...I put them on over both ears for this and turned it up.

Set of Borla Stainless exhaust just popped up on C/L for a '90 ZR1. What would it take to make them fit a non ZR1 '90?
