I went to the local auto store to get a filter for my LT1, (Since none of the oil change places in town had my filter) They asked me single or dual overhead cam. I told him it was an LT1, he said, there is no LT1, just single or dual overhead cam. I thought dual over head cam must be the ZR1, or something, so I bought the single. Now I am worried I have the wrong oil filter. I also wanted to ask you guys (and girls) who changes the oil in you vette, do you trust any of the oil change places?
One last question, Can you mix synthetic oils? I.E. Valvoline and Quaker State or something.
SOHC is the correct engine (LT1).. as for mixing oils.. this should be a no brainer.. the ONLY oil you should use is Mobile 1.. (just my 2 cents).. but if you must go with other oils, I wouldnt recommend mixing them.. use all of one brand/type of oil.

P.S. I dont take mine to the oil change place to get it changed.. I usualy do it myself.. only takes me a half hour, and a beer or two.. ;) I have seen 2 disasters with oil change places.. one place didnt tighten the oil drain plug.. they ended up buying my uncle a new engine.. The other, overtightened and rounded off the oil plug in my dad's Audi   so no.. I dont really trust them.
You have the correct filter. The dual overhead cam is the ZR1. Personally, I change my own oil. If I did go tp a local place the Jiffy lube, I would probably watch them so they wouild not make any mistakes. I think mixing synthetic oils should not pose a problem. The LT1 came with Mobil 1 synthetic in it from the factory. Hope this helps. Cheers!!
Ok, I am going to change the oil myself :) THis is my first vette, but I have worked on lots of other cars.. My first concern is finding a jack that will even fit under it, and finding a safe jack point. I have car ramps, but there is no way I could get my car on them.
You have the right filter the guy who sold it to you sounds as if he was trying to confuse you. If you were in a bind and down on oil and had to add some, mixing the oils will not cause any damage, but it's not advisable.
I always change my own oil and filter (doen't trust anyone else) :seeya

Get some rhino ramps.. Then just put a 2x4 or two in front of them.. drive up on the 2x4 then up onto the ramps.. works like a charm.
On my '93 I jack up the driver's side just enough to pull off the front tire. The drain plug and filter are right there and it is easy to change the oil.
Moble 1 all the way, Wal Mart usually has 5 Qt, jugs on sale for $17.95 plus they carry the filters. A do-it-yourself oil change for about $20. The Chevy dealer wants $50 for a Moble 1 oil change. If you look up the filter, the LT1 is engine code P.
To expand a bit on what has already been said, all synthetic oils are not created equal. What you must be aware of is that the important issue is the heat handling capability of the oil, which is why corvette recommends synthetic to start with. Mobil 1 and Amsoil have the best ratings, and if I remember correctly everyone else fits snugly into the "also ran" category. In other words, they are significantly below those two in heat handling capability. I would stick with Mobil 1, Amsoil if you can't find it.
