Code 46 after 870 to 165 swap
Since search wouldn't let me use the term "46" it's a little difficult to find answers but I wanted to confirm what I'm suspecting before doing more work.
Anyway, I found the VATS signal simulator on vatssucks.com. Would that resolve the code 46 or am I looking in the wrong place?
Obviously I can't throw a resistor under the dash since my 85 didn't have the pellets in the keys anyway.
I've got the 1985 service manual but no code 46 in there.
I'm taking the car to a tuner on Monday and he'll disable VATS but he's about 5 hours away and I need to get this thing to fire to determine if there are any other issues.

The resistor fools the VATS module. Since you don't have a VATS module you don't need to go there.
To get it to run you'll need to simulate the 30 Hz signal from the VATS module. Follow the info on the VATS Sucks web site to find a 30 Hz module. If you're electronically inclined you can make one yourself with a NE555 timer IC (that's what's inside the simulator modules).
