Default Chambered exhaust kit from Ecklers

I was wondering has anyone purchased this exhaust kit from Ecklers? If you have how is the drone in the car? Plus do you have a sound clip of the exhaust?

Thank you

Yeah I do concur. I was wondering how a set of muff eliminators would be with an h pipe.

Oh I hope someone has this kit installed and can provide their 2 cents

Saw a guy run an LT1 with chambered exhaust on the dyno. Maybe the best sounding C4 exhaust I have personally heard.

See if you can rouse up MrMojo; Frank was running muffler elims on his LT1 Vette for a while.
Driving behind him I can attest that they were LOUD; not sure about any drone though.

Corvettecentralexhaust.com had a vid of a vette with this at one time.. Last time I tried to listen to it, it didn't work. I remember it sounded pretty good though.

When I can afford it, this is the exhaust system I plan on installing on my 1996 LT1.

I have the equivalent of muffler eliminators on my 1996 LT1 right now. (Factory muffs cut out and replaced with straight pipe)

I can attest to the following:

1. They add a more aggressive note at idle, while not overly loud.
2. They add rumble when pulling away from a stop normally.
3. When you romp on it, they get pretty loud.
4. They don't have much more "drone" than what the stock mufflers had.

My wife said she can't tell the difference until I get on it.

1996 LT1, 4L60e, factory CATS and factory resonator installed, straight pipe with LT1 tips for mufflers.

The very first mod I did to my '96 was eliminate the rear mufflers. It gave me that real classic SBC sound. I did not like the resonance at higher rpms at low speeds however. So, after some research I replaced the resonantor with a magnaflow dual in/out muffler. For me, it was perfect. Then my cats burned up from the hotcam. I still like the sound, but it may be a little too loud now. It's amazing how much sound the cats muffle out. I hope to be fixing this situation soon, but the car has bigger fish to fry right now.

What intrigues me about the chambered system is the performance aspect. As I have come to understand exhaust tuning, the bottlenecks, or choke points if you will, cause a wave to go back up the system to the next choke point, where it is sent back down the system. Now if tuned properly, the back wave should hit that point just before the next pulse comes down, and actually helps to pull it through the system, thus increasing flow. So any question I would have about this system would be centered around that aspect.

These 'choke points' also act as noise cancellation. So by setting soundwaves against eachother, I'd bet it's muffling capability is greater than it would appear. It may be something I would look into. I wounder if the '96 system has a larger diameter.

Here is a video talking about chambered powersticks. Looks like it might be close to the chambered exhaust that Ecklers is advertising.

Thank you everyone for the info.

Powerpig - How do you know the kit is only 2.25?

Jmelton- how is the cut out at highway speeds does it ever become annoying?
I think that might be a great way to go. Cut out the muffs and put the tips back on. Saves a lot of money.

I did like the ones from corvette central they have the same h pipe but with a magnaflow muffler. Plus it is cheaper and they have a video of it installed. It is the cop car in the upper right.

The wife and I had the car on the highway today with the top off, and mine does not drone. Yes, you can hear it, but I could also hear the stock mufflers too.

Like I said above. My wife says she can't tell any difference than before until I get on it. A friend of mine that owns a 2013 427 Corvette drove it today too, and he said he was pretty surprised at how it sounded.

Would I prefer that set of chambered pipes? You bet. But, until the budget allows, eliminating the mufflers is a cheaper option to get that more aggressive tone.

Default Can anyone make those youtube clips work?

I'm dying to hear them put they won't play. Nor will the photo bucket links. I'm shopping now and for $160 think I'm going to start with the eliminators. When I have them on I will immediately post a video for all to hear. Hopefully this week!

I am running muffler eliminators with the factory resonator on my 92 LT1. It sounds pretty good under acceleration. About 80db A weight inside the cabin. Cruising not under load is around 63dbA. It is loudest under deceleration at 87dbA. There is heavy drone at 1500rpm under a load at 68dbA. Realize that my car cruises at 1500rpm at 70mph. So driving around town is good but when taking a trip? Extended periods of drone. I am going to try replacing the resonator with a straight pipes, an X or H pipe and reinstall the factory mufflers next. Has anyone tried that?

I replaced the resonator with a Magnaflow dual in/out muffler. It has a nice, large x-pipe in the center and sound deadning material inside the case. I expereinced the same as you did with the slim and the stock resonator, this changed fixed that completely. No drone, no resonance, still agressive.

Do you have the model number for that muffler?

As soon as I can scrounge up a tripod for my video camera, I plan on doing some videos under different conditions (windows up/down, around town/ highway, etc) to try and capture the LACK of loud droning with the mufflers cut out.
