Default Programming questions 1994 LT1

Hey guys, I have a stock ( except for the corsa cat back exhaust ) 94 LT1 MN6. I bought a Hypertech III programmer. Besides changing my redline by 400 rpms is there any good reason to go ahead and use it or should I wait until I install more mods 1st. Also it has a stock thermostat and I guess I'll go ahead & open a can of worms, should I swap it for a 160?180 degree stat. Thanks in advance, Bob in Ohio

Default I've heard...or read

That a 180 deg. Therm. Is a must do. I'm looking at putting in a jet stage 2 for manual trans. Myself. And u saw that several times while researching. Not a biggie and something you may want to do. More air in as well I.e. K+N. Please get back to me and let me know how you've made out as I'm still doing good my research as well and of course and wondering if there'll be enough bang for the buck. Good luck

Sounds like you have a decent 94 vette.

if you don't mind some sound advice...let me give you my take.

Hypertech programing, Jet Module ....waste of money and time
keep the car well maintained
valve cover gaskets
spark plug wires...spark plugs
intake gaskets
Good tires
Electric water pump
Start preparing for optispark replacement

you already got M6 vette 3.45gears performance exhaust
Enjoy the vette as she is!!!

If it's an LT1 you already have a 180 degree thermostat.

No comments on hypertech. Careful raising the rev limit, stock bottom end won't like an extra 400 rpm. I believe you said only mod is exhaust so you won't make any extra power revving higher either and you'll almost certainly see valve float.

I wouldn't mess with anything that only does part of the job. I you want full control see www.carputing.com and make any change you like. Fans for 180 degree t-stat should be set to 90C on and 85C off. GM's stock spark advance is fine, but you could bring on power enrichment sooner, or a multitude of other things. Hypertech, Jet, and all the rest is hype like cow magnets on you fuel line get better mileage.

I thought stock thermostat was 195 degree. Can't seem to find that info in my FSM but I thought I read it on here. Maybe I should look a little harder in the FSM.

Fan temps from a factory 92 LT1 BDBK are set at low mph as follows:

primary = 220F
secondary = 228F

This is very similar to any L98 which was set at 226 that came with a 195F t-stat. As Joe Friday would say, these are just the facts folks.
