I was at the monthly corvette meeting this morning. A.C.E and I realized something that I have not heard from anyone regarding what are the best headers ? My opinion was based on installing the headers. The TPIS headers have the spacer same as the stock manifold. Allowing for easy installation ( if you can call it easy !) So I'm checking out a C3 with a powerful motor in it and long tube headers. We are discussing the installation of headers and I say how hard it is to turn the bolts being on top of the tubes. He points at the bolts he used and they have allen centers as well as the standard octagon head. I wish I had done more research and sought out the BEST bolts to use in such a tight spot. Thus my reason for this thread. The best headers really should be the best bolts.

those allen headed bolts are for starting the bolts and running them in some . They will not tighten the bolt as it should be at the finish of installation. You also need the round headed allen wrench for them to work their best.
I wanted to help someone who is serious about buying and installing headers. I suppose I could have just said Buy Good Headers Bolts but whenever a search is done this would not help a guy that types in headers. So this why I started it out this way. I wish I could go back and used different bolts. Bolts that would allow a tool to reach them regardless of where and what side they are on. I should have considered this but I did not and Im stuck with the ones on my heads. Hopefully someone will read this and at least consider choosing bolts that can be tightened without using a open end wrench. A socket isn't possible when you get up next to the tube. The open end wrench can't fit down in the engine bay. The spacer on stock exhaust manifolds brings the bolt out and away from the manifold.

The advice is good. I use TPiS headers with allen bolts everywhere except the accessory studs. They make it easier to torque the rear bolts.
