I recently bought an 88 convertible. On the inside edge of the rear deck in the center is a small vent. It appears to have 2 wires going to it but not certain. It is only like 1 x 1 1/2 inches. Does anyone have a clue what this is. I can find nothing in the owners manual.
Thanks in advance for the help

I have an 87 with the same vent, I never thought about its function though I have looked at it hundreds of times.
Hmmmm, color me curious.......
Quick check of Section 10 in Service Manual for 87, didn't see any mention of this vent. Could be electrical but I didn't check there...

It is a photo sensor for the dash and interior lights. The dash will be brighter on sunny days and dimmer at night based on the light dected by this unit. if it is disconnected/removed/or not working dont worry, the car will default to the brightest setting so you can see the instruments during the day.
