need help with header removal/install..EGR bracket on LT1
I started to get the stock manifolds off the car today (94') to put headers in.
I was ready to pull the pass side manifold in about an hour except for one damn bolt
I'm having some serious trouble with. It's the bolt at the rear of the head that holds the EGR tube bracket. For those who have removed it, how in the hell did you guys get this bolt out ? 9/16" is thecorrect size right? I can't seem to get a wrench or socket on it.
Also, I got all my plugs (AC Delco 41-906) out and they look terrible. The car appears to be running pretty rich IMO. The plugs just went in last srping, the only mod I have done to the car since then was the B&B exhaust and I don't see how adding a cat back could cause a car to run rich. I know it is rumored that LT1's typically run rich from the factory but I think this goes beyond that, the last set which were probably installed at the factory didn't look as bad. I'll post pics of the plugs on Mon.
Anyone else notice this with thiers ? What could be causing the car to run so rich ?
I sold my scan tool last year, maybe it's time to invest in something again.
Re: need help with header removal/install..EGR bracket on LT1 (Mez)
The bracket is slotted so all you have to do is loosen the bolt and the bracket should slide out. I think it is a 9/16" but I have a wierd angle 40 year old wrench I inherited that fit it. Forget a socket.
That's what I thought, still I haven't been able to get anything on it to crack it loose. I already tried an offset 9/16 wrench. I wish I would have inherited that wrench you got -lol . I'm starting to think it's time to get the Dremel out and cut the bracket.

That may work. I've tried everything else I have in the way ofwrenches & swivel sockets, etc.. I'll give that a try. I think my buddy Jeff has a set of those. I'm done for today, if I can't get it loose tomorrow I'll call him.
great idea, thanks.
Re: need help with header removal/install..EGR bracket on LT1 (nickd)
Try a shorty wrench if the crows foot doesn't work. I had to deal with something like this recently for a heat hose connection and it was not slotted. I remember that bolt when I was putting shorty headers on my 94 LT1. I only had crows feet back then. Left it loose afterwards and it fell off and disappeared with no noticeable effect on the EGR hose.
Re: need help with header removal/install..EGR bracket on LT1 (AquaMetallic94LT1)
I finally got the bolt loose. A 9/16 flat wratcheting wrench did the trick.
It's staying in the head and will never be used again-lol
Did the driver's side today, turned out to be eaiser.
