Loosing clutch fluid simple question
If i remember correctly if there is no wet spots or there is fluid under the carpet it's the master and if there is spot under the car its the cable or the slave is this correct?
I plan to replace both as I know it's standard practice, I am going to use a local shop. I like to diagnose on my own first I really don't like using mechanics, it's to much of a pita to get under the car and i'm recovering from ligament damage in my shoulder.
I had both units changed on mine after buying my 86 last year and one thing I've since read is if yours has the same external slave to insure fluid did not enter the bell housing and contaminate the clutch also.
My mechanic got the replacements from NAPA and they have been find but he did have a bear of a time bleeding the air out of the line. I was able to get the last out myself though. Part was based on using a piece of hose and tip for bleeding brakes (there's a video on youtube on doing it) which got some but not all the air out. The last came out via a tip a former GM mechanic told me. Pump the clutch up several times and hold it for about 5 minutes, then slip your foot off the clutch pop up on it's own and it can force the air in the loop in the tubing out through the clutch master cylinder. It worked and got the remaining air out of the line for me and it's worked fine ever since.
Good luck.
