I have a 1990 Vette, and arthritis in my hands. I want to replace the shifter mechazim that is on the shifter lever. It is difficult for me to shift into reverse and I would like to remove the part of the shifter that you have to pull up. If this cannot be done, then I would like to replace it with something else, like on the older models that have a pull up lever that has two sides on it.

You have two options, if you replace the factory shifter with a Hurst it becomes a "crash through" like the '95 and '96 cars OR if you really like the older "lift" like the Muncie you can also have that done. The Muncie style is here:
Can the original be modified to do what you like? I would think so but certainly haven't thought about it.
