A brand new GM Chevrolet 350 engine would be my choice, comes with warranty.

If you want to go with a upgrade, contact Jim Barth aka 421tpivette. Good guy, he built my 421 and 396

New GM engines are cheap and reliable, if you want to keep her fairly stock. There are also many crate engines that are very tempting.
Just check the rear seal before committing, i am pretty sure they went to a one piece rear main seal that bolted onto the back of the engine in 1986/87 onwards.

There 86 has early and late models, cast iron or aluminum heads. Hopefully someone can show a picture of a one piece rear main seal sump etc for easy identification, do not chose an engine until you know
what rear main seal type you have. Choose the correct replacement engine, the two types of engines do not interchange.

Unless you're very experienced and knowledgeable the last place for you to shop is the "web"!

You do need to determine what you have presently "first" - have there been any modifications previously?
