I just had a Vortech supercharger installed. It is Vortech's standard model V-2 SQ S with 6-8 lbs. of boost. Im getting just about 6 at full rmp's. How do I get more, and is there a way to have it start making boost at a lower rpm? I see that Vortech sells diferant size pulleys, is that all you have to change? If so do you go bigger or smaller for more boost? Also if you change the size of the pulley do you have to change the size of the belt? Thanks for any info you can give.
As was mentioned... be prepared for additional fuel and timing ... also if you drop your pulley size you will increase boost, but you need to be sure the smaller pulley doesn't slip do to less belt contact. Also if you push to the redline... be sure you do the math on the Vortech website to be sure you don't exceed the rated max RPM's
If your interested, I have a full set of Vortech six rib pulleys available . There are 3 sizes. I nolonger have a need for them. $60.00 includes postage and they are yours. E mail me if interested.
I would not recomend running over 6psi without an intercooler or boost retard. LT1's have high enough compression without an intercooler. If you go over 6 psi (without intercooling) be ready to buy pistons, rings, and bottom end parts!!!!! I would consider an ATI Intercooler before jumping up to 8 psi or 10 psi!!!!!! Yes a smaller pulley would increase boost along with belt slippage!!! The tensioner would take up the slack from a 6psi to an 8 psi pulley. I would recomend calling the manufacture for more advice!! Hope this helps.
Thanks for all the info. Im not going to raise the boost on my stock motor. I do have a lower CR its 9 to 1 with the heads I have. I just wanted to know what was involved when I build my new motor.
Boost can be made by going with a smaller pulley. Now if you would like to get boost in a lower rpm range you might need to change the compressor to a smaller one, but honestly it will not make a huge difference. Just do some research on head units and hopefully you will find one that will meet your goals
