I'm new to the C4, but not to Corvettes. I just purchased a 1996 C4, and BOTH outside rearview mirrors exhibit the same problem. The joystick will move BOTH in and out, but will move NEITHER up and down. Are BOTH mirrors bad, or is the joystick (switch) defective, or is there still ANOTHER possibility I haven't thought of???
Any help with this from someone who's been there will be much appreciated.
I would check the joystick first. On my 84 the drivers side mirror was damaged at a car repair shop. Its in another thread. Anyway I had to take it out to fix it (the part that attaches to the back of the mirror plate was broke, that holds it to the trunion.
However while I had it apart and in the house I tested it with a 12 volt battery, and was able to see both up-down and left right operate. Back in the car only up down worked.
I believe, in some later c4s, the wiring is different. I kind of doubt that both of yours were replaced with the wrong ones, so most likely is the joystick.
Someone here should have the wiring diagram for you if you dont have the service manual yet.
I would offer mine but the 84 is possibly different.
I think I'll try that first. You are correct in that I don't have manuals yet. I just got the '96 last evening.
