1992 vette hot start problems
Ok, so when my vette gets above 205 say 220 the starter chatters but it will start. I took it to my local chevy gm certified vette tech. They had it for a week and said it needed gaskets both top end and bottom and a new starter as the starter was getting oil soaked. I said ok get it fixed, the price 2100 and it took a week. Got it back today and the same problem. Any clues? The dilemma is I was going to bowling green with it on Sunday then of to tail of the Dragon. Can I take it as is on the trip or let them try to fix it tomorrow with some suggestions from you all. Any advice?

The most common problem with the Nippondenso starter is the solenoid plunger copper disk and the two copper lugs it makes contact with pit. This cause a poor transfer of the 12 volts to the starter motor. Symptom is a click click sound from the solenoid. Could also be the battery cables need cleaning or a weak battery. (Have it load tested)
If the copper disk and lugs are pitted you can file them which will probably fix the problem.
If you have a manual trans you can always push start the vehicle.
It's possible the dealer never replaced the starter and just cleaned the exterior of the case. You should jack the car up on the passenger side and take a look.

Have you tried starting in Neutral if you have an automatic?
Id have the battery load tested at an auto part store or Sears etc....
The Nippondenso starter is very reliable except for the copper contact and lugs.

Yes the click is coming from the starter, I will try it in neutral tomorrow. One other thing I have noticed and I told the dealer about is that when the car is cold the digital volt readout is 14.7 and drops as low as 13.8 when hot, nothing running and while cruising not just idling

Might as well eliminate the battery only takes 1 minute to test it.
You said they replaced the starter.
Only thing left is the neutral safety switch, starter enable relay or wiring.
If you have a battery charger, charge the battery remove it from the car and take it to the store and have it load tested. If they test it in the car some stores may charge a fee.

What a nightmare. After I returned from Tennessee having to pass on running the tail of the Dragon I took the car back to the Chevy dealer I already paid 2150 to. They called me Thursday and said it was the water pump leaking on the optispark causing the problems with missing and excess fuel burning in the catalytic converter causing the starter to heat soak. So ok how much I ask, 4100. What no way. He replied ok 3100, uh no. When I picked it up after ordering a new water pump, Delphi opti, Taylor plug wires, ngk plugs and an accell coil he said ok 2700. So Monday I'm doing it myself for 800. Looked it over and I can handle this myself, I've rebuilt motors before so I'm no dummy, seems I can have it done in a day. I'll post the results.

I hightly doubt that 3 starters would have the same problem. I would pull the pos and neg cables of the battery I would then clean them well. I would then go to where the neg cable bolts to the engine and remove it and clean the mounting area and the cable end. Sense you have had the pos off the starter several times I would not worry about this conection. Then I would do a voltage drop on each cable. I would also have the starter load tested to make sure it is up to snuff
