Vacuum Leak - Found The Source - This Is A Tricky One.
So I finally found the source of all my vacuum woes and its kind of a tricky spot. See pic below. I have tried to use the red gasket maker but it is still sucking air in. Is it possible to change this house without taking the plenum off? Is there a factory hose replacement I can buy?
I think that is the PCV valve tube, running from the middle of the intake base to the front of the LH valve cover.
Are the threads on the intake base end crossed??
Considering the useage black RTV might not be a wise choice of sealants as I beilive it contains silicon which should not be used around any air intake.
I've got to ask, why not just go down to autozone, napa, or advanced, etc, and just buy a new piece of vacuum hose or tubing?
I would prefer to get an oem molded or acdelco tubing for this but I did not know what it was and I am pretty sure I will never find it. But now that I know the size of tube I will buy a piece and try replaying it without taking the runners/plenum off which looks like it is going to be tough.
I just used a small zip tie on my 1985 a while back and have had a perfect idle ever since.
I currenty have a hose clamp on it and the red gasket maker around the opening and when spraying starter fluid it still changes idle so I am afraid it is the other side or the tube is cracked.
It is 10 times better with the gasket and clamp but still not perfect.
Mine leaked there as well. I tried different clamps without success. They either didn't hold or you couldn't tighten them because it's a tight spot. I finally just wrapped electrical tape around it and it's been good ever since.
Everyone has had problems with this hose at one time or another, it is best to find a new heat resistant hose that is the right size and replace it. Shouldn't require any glues. I also remember struggling to find the right size hose as well.

I believe I got the right hose 9/16. When you changed it did you take off the plenum or you just removed the fuel injector connection and left the plenum alone?
Had the same problem on my 87. Replaced it yesterday. Took nuts off of wire loom, took off nut holding tube down. A little persuasion to move tube around. Put on new piece of hose. Idling like new. I am not a mechanic, but it wasn't that hard to do
