Default Alternator questions

What amperage rating is the CS130 alternator in the 89-91 L98's?

Will the CS130D work in place of the CS130?

What clock position are our ALts at?

I think I took out my alternator on Sunday (100Deg outside and with the Air on my voltage dropped to 10v. I shut the AC off and it stayed at 10v. I got the car home and put a charger on the battery.. and it is back to normal but when I start the car the Voltage needle doe not go up past 8v.

I am guesssing I killed the Alt. since the battery is only 3 months old.

EDIT found the rating on the CS130 in our vettes 105amp.

Welcome to the club. Mine went last year. I got an iceburg modded CS-130 at a local rebuild shop for not much more than the Zone's price. It's hanging in really well even though I still have the same old weak battery - reaches 8 volts when cranking. Never been below 13.8 with the engine running.
The guy said that larger capacity alternators put out less volts at idle (but more amps at capacity) due to the heavier rectifiers. Also said he hadn't had any iceburgs come back for warranty replacement.

interesting. I was running a smaller pulley on mine to keep the voltage up, whichis what I plan to do on the CS-144. This is the first time the Heat took one of mine out.

Odd thing is I never really here of guys with ZR-1's or LTx cars changing the Alternator as much as the L98 guys. the CS-144 I bought is from a full size truck.

Can't deny that logic.

I would try hooking up a known good battery first. I had the same sort of thing happen on my Tahoe. The voltage went way down. The battery was only 3 months old so I knew it couldn't be the battery. Replaced the alternator. No change. Turned out that it was the battery pulling the voltage down. Just a thought.

well, measuring the battery across the terminals with my Fluke DMM it is 12.3v

Now that does not mean it is good or bad considering there essentially no load on the battery when I check this. I should get the Alt. within the next day or 2 if the battery is bad I think I have the full replacement warranty on it. but from the way it looks right now, it seems to be the Alt.
