Default Speaker & amp removal

Been looking for a guide to removing the front and rear speakers/amps on my 86. Not gonna replace them just trying too ditch the weight. Since it's not as easy as removing the grill and popping the speakers out, figured I'd try and get some advice. Before I tear apart the whole interior and probably break some stuff doing it.

On my '88 the rears are pretty straight forward, the fronts require at least removal of the Al panel.
Can't recall if removal of the window & regulator is also required?

The rear speakers on my 86 were easy and "straightforward", but the door speakers are far from it. Remove the door panel and then the shiny metal panel at the center inside the door - there are several sheet metal screws to remove. You may have to manipulate the manual lock rod to push this plate out of the way. Window motor and regulator stay where they are. There is an excellent speaker box attached inside the door, which appears to protect the speaker as well as help with the sound. I wanted to keep all of my Bose stuff together, so I built fiberglass duplicates to install with my aftermarket speakers. If you do all four speakers carefully and at once, you should budget the better part of an afternoon. Remember, patience is one of the three most important tools for working on a C4 (the other two being a hammer and a fuel pressure gauge).

G'day BOOT77,

These addresses will help. Plenty of pictures, which will make the job heaps easier. It's all from Factory Car Stereo Help, located in Longwood, FI.

I can't get the links to work, but you can always just tap the address into your browser.

Doors:

Rear Speakers:

There's also a couple of videos on this page:

Best of luck,

Budgie

Cool thx for the helps guys I'll give it a try again once I get the engine back together.

That's what I was looking for Budgie thx! I copy and pasted the addresses and that front door one will deff help! But my rear speakers are nothing like those, they are mounted on the side towards the rear. Looks like I have 90-96 rear speakers and carpet/compartments, but my sticker is intact and the options fit the car so far.

edit: NM got looking on the site I see it was the convert speaker linked.

What you've seen is the removal of the rear speakers in a convertible.

Take a look at the fourth video on the last link. It details the removal of the rear speakers in an '84 to '96 coupe.

Budgie.
