I have a 95 conv. w/ Lt-1 engine and it has 68,000 miles on it.I had noticed some oil on my garage floor one day,and had never seen that before,so i had it checked out by my local chevy dealer. They said it has two oil leaks, one from the intake gasket, and another around valve cover gaskets.I could not tell where it was coming from even when i was under the car,so I'm a little worried about wheather they even know.I've had several bad experiences with service shops diagnoising the wrong things, in the past, due to lack of experience i think,so I'm worried about every diagnoises now.So is this a common problem with this engine,at this time, with the mileage it has on it? They say I need a serpintine belt also, which is possible I know, and they are telling me it will be $600 total for all repairs to be done.Is that a little high, because I thought so?
I had "R" intake gasket redone around 110k. I replaced the valve cover gaskets myself. The serpentine belt you can do if you have basic tools as well. As far as what they charge for the work, that sounds about right. LABOR on these things is what kills you. Parts aren't really that bad.
