Hey forum i have an 85 and I have had some problems with the left turn signal. When I first start the car, the left turn signal light will turn on but it won't blink. After having the car running for awhile the turn signal works fine. Do you guys have any idea what is causing this? Could it just be a bad bulb? Any help you guys could provide would be appreciated.
I'd start with switching the front bulbs from left to right - right to left.... and then pray to an imaginary god for 45 minutes asking for help & luck before starting the car & testing them out.
Then I'd switch the rears around and if that doesn't work, start a thread about it on CorvetteForum (oh that's right, you've already done that).
What happens when you indicate with just the ignition on?
When it is acting up walk around the car and see what lights are on. Also take notice of the brightness of the bulbs and notice of anyones that should not be lit. When running your volts and amps increase so weak circuts show up. If all bulbe seem ok replace the T/S flasher
The picture below is one I did for a 69-73 but your turn signals work the same way.
When you click the signal on, power to the side you clicked to is diverted from the standard lamp input to the flasher side. So, when you have the signal on you should have continuity between the side you clicked to and the flasher wire. (a way to test the switch).
I understand this. but.. the flasher works from what is called a beryllium switch. The current draw on the circuit causes the beryllium contact to curl (in the flasher).. when it is curled it cools and flips back down. This is what causes the flash.. I would replace the flasher first.. and see if the problem goes away.
Ben,
All this science on flashers is cool and all, but you never mention if the right turn signal works. Does it? Turn ignition switch to on and see if the right side works. The hazards use a different flasher unit that works differently. Try the hazards to check all the bulbs. Let us know what you find.

That is a very good point..
So if one side is working and one side not, I would then start testing at the steering column connection. Testing for power going in the switch and power coming out. This would narrow it down quickly.
