I am planning a trip across the Nevada Desert on U.S. 50 from Ely to Stateline (Lake Tahoe) Nevada in August. To be prepared, I am flushing out my coolant, installing new radiator hoses, thermostat and checking everything along the way. Any suggestions on the install of the lower radiator hose? Not a bad process, but there must be some tricks to attaching the new hose to the water pump and tightening the hose clamp. The upper hose is a breeze, and the thermostat replacement went pretty well too. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Save the Wave and Corvettes Forever! Steve ONeal
My method to ease that lower hose onto the fitting(s) is to apply a little antifreeze to both the fitting and the inside of the hose before sliding the hose into position.
Make sure you have the correct hose. Z51/Z52 cars use a different lower hose than base suspension (Z51/Z52 hose has an extra bend to clear the additional frame bracing).

If you delete your AIR pump and all the crap associated with it you will have great access to the front of your engine. The EGR delete that Corvettemods1 sells is a nice setup and looks great!

That is good advice. I just did my hoses this spring, on my '90 L98. definitely put some kind of slippery lube on the inside of the hose. Also, i climbed over the front of the engine, from the drivers side, to get decent access with my right hand, to work the hose onto the pump. Not a fun job, but doable. The hose clamp should be positioned just so a long handle screwdriver can access it. good luck!
