Steering Rack Question......Please read.....

93' Front wheel drive 4 door Cutlass
Bad shimmy at 25-30 MPH (I mean evil). Above 30 it's gone.
Car hasn't hit anything & this started first thing Sunday morning.
Wheel bearings have no up/down play.
Tie rods are tight.
CV joints look good & there isn't any pooping or any other noises whatsoever.
The wheel movement feels springy (compresses) when either wheel is wiggled back & forth. I mean down at the wheels not up at the steering wheel.
Around 25mph the steering "seemed" to have a gap in it (large area of no input) I hope that makes sence.
Is the rack bad? or should I look at something else before I deciding it's the rack?
Please help. This is my grandmothers car & I like impressing her (it's not needed but I like to anyway & the food she gives me as a reward is outta this world) :D
**** Mods please overlook this post ****
To try & keep it somewhat vette related I will say I just dropped my heads off at the machine shop. I will be posting flow rates as soon as he gets the valve job done.
Thanks group
Neal
Also check the p/s fluid level warm and cold and note what color it is.If its black and gray, the racks gona be a goner.
