Default Bosch vs Delphi fuel pump

Do you guys have an preference of one over the other fuel pump for our C4's? Price from Rock Auto is only a $1 difference.

Walbro fuel pump.....A lot of the guys on here running performance engines are using these pumps, myself included. They make a kit for our cars that includes a new wiring harness, gasket, pump, pickup sock filter ,new bolts, and a rubber tube and clamps to replace the pulsator, this is the best deal.... Replacing these parts is a good idea on a 24 year old vehicle..This is just my preference , I'm sure the Delphi would work fine......WW

I agree with WW7 - I just installed the Racetronix kit and it came with everything you need including new stainless steel hex head bolts and new rubber tank gasket. You can also order it directly from Racetronix as I did -

You never know for sure until there's a "conversation" - there's a slight difference in the pump specifications so you need to know if one is a typo or if you're actually comparing "the same" product. It looks like you can specify the pump model with the Racetronix which if that were a concern then maybe it is a better value. Does the price of the Racetronix change when you select the optional pump? Takes a conversation I'd guess.

I think the pump failures regardless of brand, are due to the crap (Ethanol tainted) fuel you guys are forced to use.
After my 88 arrived and was rolled out of the shipping container it refused to start, I couldn't hear the fuel pump going thru it's 2 second initial prime, so I was pretty sure the problem was a fuel pump failure.
The car still had 3/4's of a tank of Florida fuel in it.
Once I got the car home I removed the pump, it had already started to corrode externally and applying power directly to the pump only resulted in a click, the pump was pretty much seized.
Going thru the documents/service records from the PO, revealed that the pump had only been replaced 6 months earlier with a Delco pump.

I installed the Delphi pump and the car started and ran perfectly.
However about 2 weeks later the car wouldn't start, and again I had no fuel pump prime. I removed the pump and bench tested it and it worked fine, but it was showing some initial signs of corrosion after only being in the Florida fuel for 2 weeks.
I reinstalled it and the car again started and ran with no problems, this time I drained the Florida fuel and refilled with fresh no ethanol fuel, haven't had a problem since.

I don't think so...

Sounds like the Florida fuel in your tank, might have been old or had water in it hence, the external corrosion...

The Delphi fuel pump I installed, has been fine for over two years driven daily. None, of the fuel pumps I removed ever had any corrosion on it.

If the Ethanol fuel was the problem, every cars fuel pump would be failing.

Thanks for all inputs guys. I find it so interesting how the same OEM part can vary so much from the different sources. A Delphi pump from my local Chevy dealer was quoted for $132- plus 5.5% sales tax and needed to be ordered. Yet the same part number Delphi unit is listed for $52.79 at Rock Auto- in stock and only 60 miles from my house and a 5% discount code given. Local auto part stores have the pump from $74 to $88. Like the wife says " you gotta shop around" All things considered, 24 years on the original pump isn't all that bad!!!!

Yes I also thought that maybe there was water in it, but I couldn't find any in it.
After I drained the contents of the tank, I poured it into a clear container, I couldn't find any evidence of water in the fuel.
From what I've been told, the ethanol fuel goes 'off' quite quickly and starts to break down, and it's not a good idea to leave it sitting in the tank for too long.
I think my car just had old fuel in it, I suspect it was possibly 3-4 months old, maybe older but I can't be sure.
Whatever the problem was, I didn't have any further issues once I put fresh fuel in the tank.
The old fuel I ended up feeding to an old piece of crap lawnmower that I don't care too much about, it ran on it ok........but it would probably run on kerosine if it had to.
