Trying to choose a new best heads for under $1K
I am thinking about upgrading to a new pair of aluminum heads.
I've been looking for a set of assembled heads online for under $1K
Here are a few I've found at Jegs
Edelbrock E street $944
http://www.jegs.com/i/Edelbrock/350/...rentProductId=
Blueprint Engines H8002K $922
http://www.jegs.com/i/Blueprint-Engi...ductId=1630159
ProMaxx Performance 2181 $925
http://www.jegs.com/i/ProMaxx-Perfor...ductId=2786544
any issues I might have with these?
Any other suggestions?
Thanks!

Your links show both angle plug heads and straight plug heads That may make a difference with exhaust manifolds or headers.
What year is your car? Are you staying with the OEM intake manifold? That will make a difference too.

Sorry if I accidentally linked some angle heads.
Strait plug heads only.
I will be using my stock 84 crossfire intake for now.
I just bought a complete 85 TPI intake set up
. Has intake, distributor, harness, ECM and every sensor from trans to MAF. New air filter housing/intake.
I was looking at just getting another set of stock heads, but at $550, why not poney up a little more and upgrade? If possible.

You need 1205 intake ports. E streets have 1205 ports and a 64 cc chamber. Helicoiled thread inserts. Direct bolt on to both intakes. Both intakes should be 1205 port matched for maximum effect.

That's what I keep thinking. I printed out the paperwork from Edelbrock to read over everything.
They state the heads work with stock exhaust manifolds as well as headers.
Does that sound right? I'm adding headers when I replace my exgasust, but that won't be until the fall.

Ive got the cnc 185 edelbrocks , they are probably the same casting just valves, springs, porting is different,
I used them with the stock manifolds, I ported the manifolds to match, and everything worked ok, when i put the 1 5/8" long tubes on still had to port the header openings to match but I dont think the e street heads are quite as big on the exhaust port as the cnc heads.

Not to derail the thread, because I thought about Fast Burns for under 1K but I stumbled upon this article:
http://www.carcraft.com/techarticles...e_tpis_zz_450/
An older article and but how were they able to buzz this up to 7K even with light weight retainers? And the Fast Burns feed it up to 6400 rpm.

I have the Edelbrock RPM's. I have not installed them yet, and I have some Pacesetter LT1 shorties to go with them. Good to know that the stock headers can be ported. I got my heads for 600 bucks used, and I am impressed with the quality and finish work of the Eddies, I don't think you get that with the cheaper heads. I would not pay full price for RPM's, but the E streets seem like a good value.

Couldnt give me a pair of Promaxx or any of those imported heads, serious
Lots of places putting their name on it they are the same thing
Its not about flow #s so much its the little stuff you dont see til you get a couple thousand miles on them
Seats coencentric? Guides right? Rocker locations correct?
That stuff really matters
Even if you cant afford the best at least get a decent name brand

If your handy with a grinder you could try porting the stock heads yourself.
Assuming you have 083 heads you could get flow rates that come close to afr's and end up saving $700+ after paying for hot tank and magnaflux at machine shop.
Check out this article....

Those are some really respectable numbers for 083's.
Even if you get close in numbers your probably still outflowing the cheaper aftermarket heads. At that point your bottleneck is going to be the stock 85 tpi intake.
Just my $.02.

Sounds like that guy has been at it a few times or so
The AFR 190s havent been made in many yrs, they were a real good torque head. Have a set here that were CNCed by them yrs ago and just did some further work
One big heavy chunk of friggin aluminum they are holy cow

Trick flow does a 175 cc runner head with 56cc chambers that flows about 246 cfm at .600 lift. Not huge numbers, but far better than stock. It's not a 1205 gasket, but something pretty close (easy enough to touch up and port match). They are just over a grand mail order (or they were), it's worth looking into.
