I have an 88 coupe with 9.5" GS replicas from OE wheels all around. I want to put the exact wheel but the 11" wide in the back. So the fronts will be 275/40/17 and rear 315/35/17. My biggest question is will the backs fit on my 88? I believe they are the 50mm offset. Will they stick out too far and look foolish? Also will they hit or rub anything? I have magnaflow cat backs on and everything else is stock. I also am worried they will hit the rear well on bi bumps? Thanks in advance.

Hi
Yes they will stick out an inch on each side, however most get around that and keep the police at bay with enough negative camber to get the top of the wheel inside the quarter panel.
Many have done it and the fat tires look great, its your choice.
As long as you have the correct offset wheel for your year they will fit. I have ZR-1 11" replicas with 315/35-17 tires. There are more tire choices than you may think.
I have a set of tires on my car with the same problem. I've never had rubbing issues but the fact that they stick out isn't good in my opinion. It looks silly I think.
What I've done to fix it is I bought a set of genuine GS rear fender flares. I taped them on to see how they'll look. They cover my tires nicely and make the whole rear of the car look really wide. They are blue and my car is white so I need to paint them. But my C4 looks great with them on.
The 88 and later cars need the "Big Doggie" mod to tuck the tires under the body. It requires machining down a set of bearing retainers, using early outer axle stubs (pressing the ABS rings off and on) and making a set of 6 spacers. Any good machine shop should be able to do the work. I have all the parts to do mine and will be dropping them off at the shop next week to get the machining done.
E-mail me if you want the article on doing it, I have it in a PDF format.

He would only want this mod if he was using 36 mm offset (OEM ZR-1) rear wheels. He should be fine by ordering the GS 11" replica wheels with the 50 mm offset.

Ah good point. I don't deal with replica wheels, so I didn't think about that.
Thank you everyone for your info. Yes they are the 50mm offset. I was hoping that everyone would post some pics of their setups with 11"wheels weather they stick out that inch or tucked under. Thanks again!!!!
My '86 (36mm offset) with AFS ZR1 replica 17x11" wheels and Vredstein 315s. Some rubber is wider than others, these don't stick out noticeably and don't rub.
My '85 had some 17" Mustang Cobra R rims mounted with about 1.5" wide adapter when I bought it.
The end of the tread was even with the outer edge of the rear fender and the sidewall bulge was outside the fender lip.
He had trimmed the inner wheel well on the rear for clearance, but he probably wouldn't have needed that if he had replaced the blown rear shocks.
my car is not lowered but I notice mine has a deeper aluminum lip than the picture. Are those 11's?
They are 17x11s. These are the older style AFS wheels that had the deep lug center portion just like the true GS wheels. Its kinda tough to see from the angle, but the lug portion is much deeper than the newer style GS knockoffs.
