Getting my car lowered Monday. They are doing both rear and front and will keep it even, the front and rear down same amount. The roads around here aren't that great but I want it to set a little lower. How low does everyone recomend? I am thinking 1.25" and if it scrubs only drop 1". Sound good or should I save some time and just lower it 1". Also will just an inch be noticable? I can't really tell from the pics. Thanks.
Go 1.25 or 1.50 if possible. My car has been lowered with the MAD kit and it was only 1.00 in the front. On the end of my front spring are isolators which can be cut down about .25 to .50. I don't know if there are isolators on the year of your car or not. Mine is a 96 and has them. My car lowered an inch was not noticable at all. My total in the front now is app. 1.50. I don't drag, but have to be carefull choosing my entry and exit paths out of driveways.
I lowered mine with the MAD kit. I used the Poly wedges, so mine only dropped about 3/4 to 1 ". It looks much, much better now, but around here I bottom out a LOT now. Depends on your road conditions. Good Luck.
IMO, I think it matters how old your springs are on the car and what shocks you have. I have 120K on my '87 Z52 springs and the front sagged down quite a bit when I put Monroe shocks on the front. I soon replaced all four corners with KYB's and the front came up a lot. I got the wedges and longer bolts from Mid-America but I'm leary now about going down a full inch with the tired spring in front.
Mines loered an inch in fron but stock in the back..........gives it a nice "stance"...........but when I was on vacation and had luggage in the car........... I saw how it would look with the rear lowered too......... HHHhhmmmmmmmm ............ maybe :D
The shop that was supposed to do it called and said they didn't have the correct tool to remove the front spring. Does this make sense? He said it is under a lot of tension and without the tool the spring may get cracked.
I did mine in the garage with a floor jack and 36" jack stands. There are no special tools to my knowledge. The hardest part is getting the car high enough to get the spring out. I am sure your mechanic has a lift so height is no problem. When the front leaf is out it has a tremendous bow, but is no different than your mechanic changing a coil spring or strut.
I used the MAD kit. Car dropped 1" in front. Back is adjustable of course. I use the PF35 filter and the bottom is scraped up along with the exhaust, tranny drain plug and front air damn.
car handles real nice tho.
I agree with above statement about sagging/old/tired springs too.
