This is very important to know and check. Alot of hack mechanics and owners as well if they cant fix say a check engine light by tracing trouble codes correctly will get to the dash bulb light and disconnect it
So first see if the light comes on key on engine off if it will not someone pulled the bulb If it lights up then goes out after u start the motor and stays off at any time ur motors running ur within what gms Engineers considered and figured to be normal and safe for whatever thats worth because gauges wll fail and be off alot even when new
The idiot light comes on with the switch turned to the on position and then goes out with the engine idling. When the engine is hot and I come to a stop, the oil pressure drops to 4-5 psi and with the new oil change and sending unit. Then, if I sit for a few more seconds in drive at an idle (around 500-600 rpm), the oil pressure goes to zero and the red light comes on to the left of the psi indication.

What puzzles me is that with the new sending unit, the pressure should be accurate, and with fresh oil, I should have better oil psi not less.

Like I said, the engine sounds great. No lifters ticking, no lower end noise, nothing.,it runs smoothly. I will put a mechanical gauge on it next, but i expect the same psi readings..............any ideas anyone?

Also u need to tell us what kinda pressure ur getting cold and at what temp and where ur pressure goes as it gets to full temp and then after driving for about 30mins
He is a little video of my 85 and it gets changed every month and its due with good 10/40 and whats not shown in the video is after about 30mins of beating on it on the road and oil temp upto 200 degrees 700rpm idle goes a little bit lower than shown and feathering the throttle to try and get it to 800 rpm does raise idle pressure a lot so 650 rpm for ur motor maybe too low. But again u need to consider ur total cold pressure and then ur hot idling pressure to really properly Diagnose if u have a problem and even maybe pulling a valve cover and seeing for urself that oil is squirting up there and past the rockers to know for sure the gauge is off but u still might have a situation of a blocked and or half block oil pump pick up screen u havent ruled that out because u havent sprayed any solvent up in there and through the valve train
Heres my 85 from a cold start to 200 degree water temp
Wont work Ill try and upload the video latter

Try bumping up Idle speeds with ur Base Idle Screw/cam Thats too low. I bet-cha ur O2 Crosscounts r way too high. Meaning what u have to do is. Well this put it this way The throttle body butterfly needs a little cleaning You need to with the car off open the butterfly wide open and clean the little ledge of crap thats build up thats around the butterfly when its in its closed position. GM always recommended that its techs remove the throttle body and soak it but with a rag sparyed and soaked with carb cleaner u can hole the throttle body wide open and try and get in there and wipe it clean until their is no ridge then ur isc or whatever is in play will maintain ur idle speed which in ur case is too damn low. Acouple of hundred rpm will put ya O.K. for now without cleaning out the bottom of the pan and oil pickup screen
Just remember I think the oil goes in and out of the filter then thru the mains and rods then goes up towards the lifter valley where its monitored by the gauge sending unit the pissed all through out the valvetrain so 4 to about 15 is real low and an indication of alot of worn **** and u still havent said what it is dead cold at about 2000rpm

Still do this for sure. Thats an old gauge and the Idiot light most likely is tied into the sending unit. The gauges scale could be off u could be getting 20 or 30 pounds and it could be showing 2 or 3.
This is nothing to play with and keep running an engine with an Idiot light going off and not feeding the mains and rods or it is and the clearances are wiped out and its pissing past the caps.
Right now u have a rebuildable core if u really have such low pressure and u dont get to it u wont have nothing but a boat anker
