Default code 42

88' 35th anni. Car continues to throw code 42,which is est or ecm. I replaced the ecm, knock sensor, est, esc, ignition module and for good works, put in new coil, dist. cap and rotor.Did not replace the prom. Car continued to throw a code 42, but ran ok. A little sluggish and poor fuel mileage. Drove it for about 300 mi. this way and then it quit.Had to have it towed. Popping and banging upon starting and would not take any throttle without stalling. I'm thinking I have some sort of wiring problem to the ecm,but don't know for sure. any ideas ? Thanks

Did you run these diagnostics? From an 86 but should be the same. My 88's Helm is not available at the moment.

Sorry, I don't remember where I saw it. But i did find somewhere an bad spark plug wire could cause this.

If I remember correctly is has to do with EMI and a plug wire bleeding thru to ground or arcing in some fashion.

Thought I would offer this up incase you haven't check your plug wires.

Best of luck...
