Default New Bilstein Shocks are on!...

After 143,000 miles, I decided to replace the stock Delco/Bilstein shocks even though the handling and suspension seemed fine.

After reading recent threads on the Z51 Bilsteins, I decided to install a set of those on my Lowered 91 with FE1 springs.

My 91 Vette handled and drove nice before but, the suspension just feels tighter and more secure now! My Vette also, corners quicker and flatter!...

I compared the Compression and Rebound damping of the old shocks to the new Z51's by pushing the shock piston down on the ground. The original Delco/Bilstein shocks compressed a little easier but, rebounded a lot slower than the new Z51 Bilsteins but, I can't believe the original Delco/Bilsteins have lasted this long!...

Also, the new Z51 Bilsteins did not change the ride height at all as some have found with other shock brands. Ride height remains the same at 26 1/8" front and 26 5/8" rear with a full tank of gas.

All I can say is, My lowered 91 Vette with the FE1 springs and Bilstein Z51 shocks is the Perfect combination!...

Do those springs have a stiffer rate than regular (non Z51) springs??

I replaced the original shocks with new Bilsteins on my 91 last year at 130k. What an amazing difference.

The FE1 springs are for the base suspension.

Its probably similar to a '89-91 FX3 car in the performance position. The spring rates on the '91 compliment this very well i.e last year before the spring rates started to get progressively softer. Super cool!
