This is on a 93 auto. Started the car and moved it away from the garage and could not turn it off. The key and cylinder are locked. Had to disconnect the battery to shut it down. Couple of things:
1. The steering works fine, key will not budge.
2. Went through all of the gears, still the key will not move.
3. I replaced the ignition switch 2 years ago.
Is there anybody who has run into this? Is this a symptom of a bad cylinder lock or maybe something else?

Park lock cable likely. Does the button depress as it should to allow full range of motion Park to 1st? there's a snapshot here that might help.
..... Same thing happened recently on my work truck , 93 Suburban ... ignition lock was stuck in the run position and would not turn off but would turn forward to engage the starter ... had to change out the ignition key lock cylinder ... $15 at Napa ... BUT , the 'burban does not have a chipped key ...........
You could flush your ignition cylinder with contact cleaner spraying around the key and working it in and out while doing so and IF yours will sill go to crank with the battery disconnected rotate it as much as possible. It's entirely possible that it could be a similar situation as mentioned above. It is worth the effort. Generally an ignition cylinder fails and it will go to off but wont allow you to rotate to "LOCK"!
Just had a situation where the key wouldn't turn in the van. On a suggestion from my mechanic, I tapped the end of the key with the plastic handle of a screwdriver while attempting to turn it. Able to get it to move then once it was, had the cylinder changed out. Apparently one or more of the pins in the cylinder were stuck and tapping allowed them to move enough for the cylinder to turn.
