It's proving really difficult to remove the visors on my 87 and I'm pretty frustrated. I've searched and read probably hundreds of posts, some with some great tips, mostly about reinstalling. It seems like a lot of you have done it, but I'm just not having any luck. I found the Mid America video (http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c4-g...to-videos.html), which makes it look ridiculously simple. But, of course, it's a bit rusty after 25+ years, so it's NOT simple.
I got nowhere trying to use a flat-blade screwdriver to pry off the clip and retainer. I tried compressing the spring a bit (with a big C-clamp and socket) to see if that would reduce the pressure on the clip/retainer, but that didn't work.
I tried sliding the visor off the post, but I have lighted vanity mirrors on both sides and can't get the trim piece down and out of the way far enough to disconnect the wire connector, because the trim piece runs into the post of the visor! (kind of a catch-22)
Care to pass along your experience and suggest what I try to remove the clip and retainer?
I put a flat bladed screwdriver down the outside of the retainer in the gap between the retainer and the opening. I then locked the retainer in place by turning the screwdriver. Then, I would swivel the visor to unscrew the retainer. Release the screwdriver, reset the visor and repeat until the retainer backs itself out.
Hope this helps.

I used thin long-nose plyers to carefully unscrew the retainer clip, being particularly careful when it becomes loose as that spring can send parts flying to who knows where...
Thanks for the help! My pliers weren't long enough to work well and it didn't seem to be unscrewing when rotating (since there's no threads). I found a pretty small, but sturdy screwdriver and just pried up one edge and the clip finally popped off (grazed my cheek as it went flying by, unfortunately, never to be found)... I was pretty sure I was going to break the clip. On the other side, it was *much* harder to pry the clip off because, it turned out, there were 2 clips holding the retainer! So, lucky me... I have another clip to use when putting it all back together.
Took a crack at mine about a week ago, failed to get the clips off.
One thing though, I went to US Auto parts store and they have a bag of the 3/16" clips for a couple of $$, so I bought a bag just in case.
I'm thinking if I can't get the old clips off, I'm going to try a Dremel tool with a cutoff wheel and cut the old clips. More than one way to skin a cat. We'll see what happens.
My clip broke but I happened to have a spare. The visor mount is NOT threaded. The grooves are parallel to each other, so you can't "unscrew" the clip:
