I own an 89 L98 with lots of mods:
new pistons and rings, bored out 30 over, compu-cam (.518/.523), trickflow heads, 1.6. crane gold RR, 58mm TB, adjustable fuel pressure reg. (48psi), mod MAF, open lid w/ K&N,stock plennum and runners for now, rebuilt 700R4 with 2600 stall TQ, TPIS stage V chip, 160 thermo & fan switch, accel cap and super coil, + a few other misc. items.
When I rebuilt motor, I replaced injectors with new ones, TPIS claims that the 19# were more than sufficient. Now whenever I change plugs they are ghostly white, lean burn? correct.
Anybody else have any input as to what injectors, type & size would be better, with these mods are the 19# sufficient and any brand in particular to avoid??????
Thanks Again to the replies. FRED
TPIS is wrong; our stock injectors are rated at 22# at 43.5psi. The 19# injcetors were stock for the LB9 in my IROC.
I'm running stock cam and heads with stock 22# injectors at 47psi and have just the right air/fuel at WOT (based on dyno pulls with a wide band O2 sensor).
I would stay away from any more WOT operation till you get a set of 22# or 24# injectors and tune your fuel to match the air flow.
I put Ford SVO (ughhh) 24# injectors in mine, but the Accel are good to use as well. The only difference is that the the Ford injectors in a Chevy motor will actually allow the car to get out of its own way
I'd have to agree that you better keep the right foot out of it until you change them out. Running that lean you run the risk of doing some serious damage to the motor.
I'm running Accel 26lbers, which were way too much. They were smoothed out in the computer chip tho. stock regulator at 38psi.
I agree with James. 22lb is stock, not 19lb.
also agree with Joe. Too much fuel in the cylinders might wash them down and then your rings may not seal as good cuz the cross-hatch pattern.....yada yada....
Accel? um......I dunno...........they're working, but I'm not impressed with them. (they were dirt cheap, so that's why I tried them)
I think Ford SVO's actually flow more than what they are labeled(can someone confirm this?)
SVOs are rated at 39 psi. They will flow about 7.5% more at 45 psi. Its imperative that you reprogram the ecm to the new injector flow value if the actual injector flow rate is increased/decreased above 10%. The programmed flow value should be the actual injector flow rate at the fuel pressure you plan to run.
I spoke with TPIS on Friday and according to Terry their 19# injectors are equivalent to the stock GM 22# injectors. Plus their 19# injectors are good up to 400 hp and for the mods that I've got they are more than sufficient. So, for now I've removed the chip and sent it back for another reburn, mainly to help the start-up for now. Any other feedback about the injectors and what part# and where to get the SVO 24#?????
Thanks Again
