My headlights flip good. But when i close em, the left one looks like it locks, but i i can push on it ever so slightly and see that there is some play in it. It bounces, like its not locked all the way and it looks bad as well. I cannot adjust the little bumper anymore. How else can i adjust this?
I have experienced symptoms not unlike yours twice in the past. Both times the "nylon" driven gear bought the farm shortly thereafter. I finally went to the higher priced bronze gear set hoping they will outlast me...
Unless someone has upgraded your headlights, you don't have bushings. The 84 - 87 headlights are different and don't use the three bushings that tend to turn to dust. 84 - 87's have a large, nylon gear driven by a hard, metal worm gear. The worm gear begins to "wear" away part of the last few cogs on the nylon gear which you first notice as play or slop when the headlights are opened and/or closed. Soon after you find that "slop" the worm gear finishes off one or two cogs on the nylon gear and then that headlight no longer works in one direction at all, usually it will close but not open. I replaced the gears one time and then the next time I opted for the more expensive, bronze set... I removed the entire headlight assembly and did my repair at the dining room table on a bath towel. My wife was a bit "testy" over my choice of work benches but in the end I did no damage to my headlight buckets or her dining room table or towel.
