So this morning took a long highway scoot in my 88 and she had all the power and grit to simply glide down the highway effortlessly. However this evening at a stop light....the fellow in the other lane randomly took it upon himself to turn it into a staging opportunity as I could hear him brake stand the throttle. So I let him chirp off the line ....then for some reason this time I decided to reel this one in . Though I ended up flaming him within never actually exceeding the posted speed limit of 50.... however there was noticeable lethargy until the car hit about 35mph. Is there an adjustment that can be made to sharpen throttle response or is that the nature of tpi corvettes? I ask this because on the highway the throttle response is instant. Thanks for input in advance.
I think it's weird that my car seems to have a lot of power sometimes and very little at other times. It seems to be related to what gear it's in and the speed. I think if you get a bad combination of gear and speed it just doesn't work very well.
Sometimes it's scary how easy it is to break loose the rear tires from a standing start. We have the wonderful metered onramps on the freeways in California. Every freeway entrance turns into a drag race. I'm always cautious because I don't want to fishtail into the car in the next lane.
My 87 does the same thing. You really have to watch the *** end getting in front of you from a standing start. Mine broke loose twice and scared the hell out of me. Very careful ever since.
I'm gonnna assume your car is an auto trans and w/o full WOT load it'll shift up faster and you prob were in a higher gear when you decided to reel him back. Another reason I can't wait till I get around to installing a better shifter like I have in my other cars. In my C3 I just throw it down to 1st or 2nd depending on my speed.
.... however there was noticeable lethargy until the car hit about 35mph.
If that was off idle, adjust the TPS to around 0.65Vdc at base idle or around 0.75Vdc at normal idle.
If it was from a roll, as mentioned, you could have been in 2nd gear and it did force a down-shift.
Another possibility is that, because you were "side-by-side", the perception was one of low power.
my 85 dogs out if it slips into overdrive too soon....otherwise it's a tire smoker... changing the tps to .65 will give you a better throttle response..
Yes my 88 is an auto. Your comment that the perception of lethargy was because I was side by side with the other vehicle might be correct. I def did not accelerate in third gear because after the roll I did give it 3/4 throttle so if anything it held second gear longer then dropping to first gear. I will look into adjust the tps as every so often I get a stumble at initial hard starts.
At WOT 1st should hold for awhile, mine is a 3.07 gear and I think it holds till in the 50's mph. idk usually looking at the road and tach more when racing and I'm not use to having a speedO that works so I forget to even check it most the time.
